Diary Of A Wimpy Kid

The other day, I ended up at Landmark, where there was a book sale going on. Get three books for the price of two! How could I resist? :)I bought two books that I had been looking for since long, and got Diary Of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney free!

I finished reading the book within a couple of hours, and LOVED it! It is total fun, super-duper entertainment.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is the diary of Greg Heffley, a middle-school kid, who feels that he is ‘stuck with morons’ as classmates. Making his life all the more miserable are his non-ability to attract girls, his best friend in school who is not at all adventurous, and his pest of an elder brother. He writes in his diary about his day-to-day life, and it makes for quite a hilarious read. In fact, it is laugh-out-loud funny at places.

The story is told with the help of cartoons – stick figures, mostly – and that gives a nice touch to the book. That apart, what I liked about the book is that it is about a mischievous, normal kid with normal parents, who are doing their best to raise a disciplined, good child. I have read too many books about dysfunctional families, and the child going through so much pain in his family life that he resorts to mischief and bullying to get noticed in school. This one is a simple story, a nice change from all that sadness.

The back cover of the book tells me it is for children aged nine and above, but I think it is a book that anyone will enjoy. Especially if you are a child in adult skin, like me. :)It is such a breezy, fun read that it will cheer you up instantly. I would think twice about giving it to a kid to read, though. I wouldn’t want him/her to get ideas from Greg’s diary and for the book to backfire on me! 🙂

I am regretting not buying the entire series now! 😦 I loved the first book, and am really looking forward to read the other books in the series. Sadly, I don’t think I will be buying any more books till December. I have way too much to read before I buy any more. 😦

I loved Greg, too. He is adorable, isn’t it?
