As promised, here are the recipe and the pic of the basic butter cookies that I was telling you about in the previous post. 🙂
Please don’t pay any attention to the amateurish shape of the cookies. That was the best I could come up with, considering that I have just started baking and have not yet invested in some cookie cutters.
I followed this recipe to the letter. No changes. I do not own a weighing scale, though, and the measurements were, therefore, approximate. BTW any suggestions on how to get the measurements exact? Any suggestions about the type of weighing scale that one would need for baking?
And while we are on the subject of baking, let me tell you about the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake that I made over the weekend. I followed this recipe that Smitha had suggested, and it turned out super-duper yummylicious! It was just the right amount of moist and sweet, and my family LOVED it! 🙂
Here are some pics of the cake.
Again, pardon me for the amateurish-looking cake and amateurish-looking pics. Food photography does not come easily when all you want to do is try out the food and see how it has come out! 🙂
By the by, the husband suggested that this cake should be called Pineapple Downside Up cake since the pineapples are placed at the bottom of the tin and the tin is inverted after the cake is ready, to bring the pineapples on top. I thought he made sense! 😛
So, now, I am officially addicted to baking. I am in love with it – with the aroma that fills my home when I am baking, with the thrill on the faces of the family every time I make something new, and with the entire process of baking. I am thinking of baking something savoury next; don’t knwo what it will be, though. Any suggestions?
How have you been, folks? How was the weekend for you?
whoa did I just read ‘amateur’ ?
this is no way amateur TGND!!! way to go girl 🙂

These look pretty amateur, Scribby, compared to what some of the professional bakers of blogworld bake. 🙂
But anyways, I am happy that I started! 🙂

As for measurements – it is always better to have the exact measurements. You should get measuring cups and spoons everywhere. And even weighing scales. Not sure how expensive they are -but it is worth the investment, if you do continue baking 🙂

I have you to thank for introducing me to these simple but wonderful recipes. 🙂
I will check out weighing scales and measuring cups and spoons. Think I should be able to find them.
Do you use scales or measuring cups?
LikeLike
I use both. Based on the recipe. The recipes that I get from US based sites use cups and the British ones use the metric system. So I use both. On sites like allrecipes – you can even opt for which method you want. Both work – as far as you are measuring meticulously.
Maybe I should compile a to-dos – that I have learnt over the years 🙂 It might be useful 🙂

Anyway, I’d done a post there about everything you need to know on measurement for baking, you might find it useful. Thank you! 🙂
I use an OTG and not a microwave. I am not sure if baking in a convection oven would give the same results as an OTG. You’d better read up on it or ask some knowledgeable person about it if you do plan to make cakes, pizza, bread, cookies, etc.

Ah TGND,
These look so yummy. I want to bake too sometime soon. I just have a microwave though. Did you dish this out using just the convection microwave?
And yes, the smiles on the faces is worth all of the effort 🙂 Happy baking and look forward to more pics and more innovations 😛
Cheers

Please do bake sometime soon. Would love to see pics of your attempts and learn all about them. 🙂
No, I don’t have a microwave. I have a Morphy Richards OTG.
Exactly. I don’t mind putting in a little extra effort just to see those smiles on the faces of my family. 🙂 Thank you!

Where in Bangalore are you based? Depending on that I can tell you where to pick up goodie backing stuff – scales, ingredients, flavouring etc. Scales can be expensive so I use the measuring cups and spoons (available in almost every supermarket) and the beaker (same). Check out some websites for baking measurements info, which convert grams into teaspoons/ cupfuls. That makes your job easy 🙂 Something like this: http://www.egglesscooking.com/baking-101/baking-measurements/
Oh and if you don’t want to reveal location here, e-mail me: chinkurliiATgmailDOTcom.
