Bella Tuscany: The Sweet Life In Italy

If I had to describe Frances Mayes’s book Bella Tuscany in one word, I would say ‘Beautiful’. It is a charming, charming book, full of descriptions of Mayes’s daily life in Tuscany. There are bits and pieces of Mayes’s personal life thrown in along with the Tuscany tales, making the book all the more interesting and charming.

In Bella Tuscany , Mayes talks about the beauty of the countryside, and the generosity of the people who live around her, as well as her day-to-day affairs in Tuscany. She speaks about her experience of living in Bramasole, the countryside cottage that she and her partner Ed so painstakingly restored in Under The Tuscan Sun. Her language is simple and flows throughout, sliding over your brain and causing you to dream of faraway lands and pretty countrysides and lovely villas.

I will not quote my favourite lines or paragraphs from this book here, because I know I will end up typing out the whole book. Yes, I loved this book that much, as I did the author’s other books.

There are parts in this book which have already been written about in Mayes’s Under The Tuscan Sun; however, that doesn’t take away from the reading experience. The author’s passion for Tuscany is real and palpable, and comes across oh-so-clearly in all her books, and it is not tiring to listen to her speak about it over and over again. I, for one, am getting more and more enamoured with Tuscany with every book of Mayes’s that I read, and I found myself grabbing on to each word of hers with amazement and a smile on my face.

I loved the experience of reading this book, and would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. It makes sense to read it after Under The Tuscan Sun, though.

Go ahead, grab this book, and fall in love with Tuscany!

  1. I am so going to get this. Not available in my lib – so will buy it when I am back in India -infact. I am going to buy all her books. I’m taking ages to complete A year in the World -it is so much fun reading her, that I re-read chapters, enjoy it all over again 🙂 I know, I am crazy, but I love it. Also, she has gone to many places that I have been to -and that makes me so excited 🙂

Lucky you! I am J, all over again. 😀

If you loved A Year In The World, you will definitely love all Mayes’s other books. I am going to buy the entire series too. I think I have a sort of crush on her. 😀
