Lust list

I am part dreamer, part practical. The dreamer in me would love to buy all the stuff that I see here and there – for myself, for my family, and for my home. I have a picture of my dream home in my mind, and I would love to design my home the same way in real life. The practical side of me tells me to slow down, to watch the bills, and to give way to ‘necessities’ over ‘dreams’. Dreams can wait till later, it tells me. I keep trying to balance both sides of me. 🙂

They say that creating a dream board can help you achieve your dreams.  Thanks to D, I got the inspiration to make a virtual dream board, a list of all the things I have always dreamt of buying, but never really got around to. I initially thought there would be about 10 items, but once I started making the list, the ideas started flowing and I ended up with a looooong post. Pardon me if it takes time for the pictures to load for you.

So, here we go. 🙂

I want a Munshi table (also called a laptop desk/bed table). I would love it if I could get one similar to that in the picture above, a foldable one with drawers. I would love to eat, read, write, and use the hubby’s laptop on this table.

I have always loved ankle-length and thigh-length boots. I never bought them, because I don’t have any place to wear them to, and I don’t really wear the kind of outfits that would go with such boots. However, I have a dream of owning a pair of these in my lifetime all right.

I have always been in love with winter coats. I doubt if the weather here would warrant wearing a winter coat at any point of time, but I still love them. I would love to own one.

This is for the romantic in me. I would love to have a locket, in which I can place two photographs side by side – for the hubby and me.

I read quite a bit, as must be evident from my blog. For all that I read, I don’t have a proper place to read in. I read sitting down, standing up, cooking, in between watching TV, walking, everywhere that you can imagine. I would love a reading chair and ottoman, plush and comfy, in a quiet part of the house, just devoted to reading and relaxing.

This is a silly, small dream of mine that I somehow never got around to fulfilling. You know, those keychains with rice grains inside thin glass tubes, with your name written on the rice? I want two of those – one with my name, and one with the hubby and my names.

I have been drooling over this coffee mug ever since I saw it with a colleague of mine. The mug changes colour when hot liquid is poured into it, and the lettering on it becomes visible. I would love to have a different quote on the mug – I would hate it to say ‘Off’ and ‘On’.

I need some space-saving wall racks for our home, to keep little knick-knacks on.

Ah! How can my dream list be complete without a bookshelf? As of now, my books are stashed away in a small shelf in my bedroom, and I am running out of space, badly. I would love to own a proper bookshelf, one made of dark brown, smooth wood. I would love it if it had space to hold all the little knick-knacks that I buy on my travels as well.

I have always drooled at a brass statue of Krishna at fairs, but never bought it. I want one with Krishna playing the flute, Radha standing beside him, and the Kalpavriksha behind them.

I love Buddha statues, especially white ones. I would love one for my bookshelf, to add an element of peace to my room.

An e-book reader. Wow, I would LOVE to own one, in spite of the fact that I have no idea of what brands are available and how to operate one. Also, I love physically touching and holding books, but I would still love an e-book reader for the ease it would afford me while travelling.

I dream of a huge birdbath in my home garden, and this fisherman’s statue sitting on the edge of it, a small turtle playing around in the water.

I have always loved bird-feeders and bird homes in pictures. I would like to own one each for my home garden. Thanks much to Sangitha for pointing me to this lovely website!

I would love to have a similar arrangement of a tea table and a few chairs in my balcony, where we can sip our tea and read our newspapers, looking out at passersby simultaneously.

A porch swing. Ah! I would LOVE one.

This might sound silly, but I have always dreamt of having sunflower, raat rani and lotus plants in our home garden, but I have never been able to find the plants anywhere. I don’t even know if lotus plants can be grown at home, but I would love to have them.

A pretty bottle of branded perfume for me. 🙂

I would like to own a smart wristwatch, though I don’t usually wear one. I would like to wear it occasionally, though.

I have always had a love affair with Sabyasachi’s sarees. I would love to own one of his creations. I also love Orissi Sambhalpuri sarees, and would love to buy a simple, cotton one with a red, white and black pattern, like the one in the above picture.

I want, want, want this Anarkali suit for myself.

I dig Paddington Bear books. I would love to have the full set of Paddington books, and a bear doll to go with it. And while we are at it, I would love the Calvin & Hobbes complete boxed set, too.

I am craving for a vacation in a beach-side cottage. I wish I could be transported inside the picture, somehow, magically, NOW!

My camera, which has been ever so faithful to me, has suddenly conked out. I would love a proper, hi-fi camera, which would give me wonderful zoom options, irrespective of the fact that I would have to spend months together learning how to use it.

I would die for a decent Kerala oil massage. NOW!!

We are in the mood for sumptuous Italian fare now. So there!

We are in the mood for a jungle safari too. I would so love to go on a safari now, watch some wildlife and capture some beautiful pics.

I adore stained glass. I would love to have a panel of stained glass for a ventilation unit in our room.

I love lamps. The quainter they are, the better. I would love to have a couple in my bedroom.

I have always dreamt of having at least one wall in my house painted with a beautiful mural. Maybe one wall in our spare bedroom can have this.

I want a pair of decorative earthen horses for my living room. I LOVE them when I spot them in fairs.

Thanks to Enid Blyton, I have always fantasised about cuckoo clocks. I want one for my living room. I’m not sure if they are available in India, though.

A gift hamper containing beautifully scented soaps and candles, face cream and flowers, for the lover of all things flowery and pretty – that’s me.

A box of assorted Ferrero Rochers. Enough said.

I have been attracted to golliwogs ever since childhood, all thanks to Enid Blyton again. I doubt they are available in India, but I would love to own one. Who says one cannot buy dolls for themselves once they cross the age of ten? 😛

On that note, I’d love to own a princess doll as well. Thanks to unfulfilled childhood dreams. 🙂

I would love a decorative spice bottle for my kitchen.

Another childhood fantasy that somehow never got fulfilled – a globe. I would love to own one now, and keep dreaming about all the places in the world I want to visit.

Both the better half and me are in love with teapots and quaint teacup-saucer sets. I would love to have a white-and-pink-rose-patterned set.

I am a lover of most things English. Keeping in line with that, I have always dreamt of wearing a wedding gown. I would love to own a traditional, white wedding gown. 🙂

I would like a huge hold-all backpack for travelling purposes. I could stuff all my belongings into it, strap it to my back, and enjoy a carefree vacation.

I love these blue-and-white patterned plates. I would love to own a set of these for the kitchen, though I think I’d be too stingy to use them. 😛

I am not really the kind of person who likes to attract attention to herself. Far from it. However, I would love to own, and wear, a T-shirt with a cheeky slogan on it. One of those silly little dreams that I never got around to fulfilling.

That’s that for now. Keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping that I am able to achieve most, if not all, of these little dreams and fantasies.

Do share your dream list. I’d love to see it. 🙂

  1. This list got me thinking of my dream house which like yours has taken shape in my head. I can visualise the book shelf, swing, Buddha and brass and terracotta knick knacks apart from a Nataraj, lots of bells and ornate door handles. And yes, I too savour many things English. Thanks to Enid Blyton. Those childhood memories make me never want to grow up. I recently came across your blog and have been liking all that I’ve been reading.

Thank you! 🙂 Yes, I have ticked off a few items since last year – the anarkali suit, Sambhalpuri saree, branded perfume, laptop table, the nesting box and bird feeder, a nice watch and the set of Paddington books, for instance. 🙂

  2. Very nice and long list. I will have to go back and forth between the post and the comment bar.

    – I loooovvveee the mug.
    – I like the keychain with rice grain. (bookmarked the website)
    – A bookshelf was a must in the house with all the books we have. Maybe we need another one now 😛
    – I want really cool bookends. I have yet to come across the ones I like
    – For E-reader, I would recommend an iPad. You can use different formats on one device. Many classics are free online. You can also download a kindle app and Nook app. Overall, I think this takes the best of all devices and puts it into one.
    – I want a small fountain in the garden and maybe a large aquarium/water wall in the house. I don’t know how feasible that is.
    – Last one…I had a shirt that said “Will trade brother for shoes.” There were no takers 😛

Hmmm…my list is getting long. Maybe I should do a similar post. 🙂

      That’s so nice! 🙂
I am considering an e-book reader too, though I haven’t done much research on it. I doubt I would get the same enjoyment out of it as I do from books, but it is seriously tempting. 🙂

Once I started making this list, I realise how long it was getting. I had drafted the whole post when I realised I should have made this into a series too. I was too lazy to re-do it all over again, so I just let it be. 😛
