In Pics: A Walk Through Shivajinagar, To Get Into The XMas Spirit!

I have said time and time again on my blog that nothing puts me in the festive spirit faster than a walk through the city’s markets, all decked up with festive goodies and the sight of people eagerly thronging to buy them. Well, Christmas is almost here, and we are slowly getting into the mood of the season. Last weekend, we just had to plan a trip to Shivajinagar, just to walk through the streets, take in the festive air all around, and to take our own festive spirits a notch higher. This walk has always held a special significance for us – in the last few years, it has become a sort of tradition for us to visit Shivajinagar just before Christmas, as much as it has become a tradition for us to get home some ‘plum cake’.

For the uninitiated, Shivajinagar is one part of Bangalore that Christmas celebrators flock to for the plethora of decorations that are available in the roadside stalls here. Of course, there is a class of people who do not want to buy these ‘general’ decorations, but there is a huge group of people who do just that. There’s nothing like a walk through the area to pep you up, and it is a great place to indulge in some photography, too. Also, Shivajinagar is home to the famous St. Mary’s Basilica, a sacred place that is held in much faith and love by Bangaloreans.

Here are some pictures from our walk through Shivajinagar, for your viewing pleasure.

  2. Beautiful pictures as always πŸ™‚ I loved the pine cones and the colorful lights. Hi-five, I dont like those palm roots too. They are called thegalu in Telugu and usually they are roasted in open fire in Andhra – I am neither a fan of boiled nor the roasted.

Thank you! πŸ™‚ Glad you liked the post!

This was the first time I saw panankizhangu, and couldn’t resist buying some. We pressure-cooked them at home, and I didn’t like them at all! I did read of a lot of people loving them to bits, on the Internet, though.
