You look at me and start crying, your lower lip jutting out, in that typical way of yours.
I figure out that you are sleepy and want a cuddle too.
I pick you up and hold you against me, chest to chest.
You calm down in a bit. You put your tiny arms around my neck. Your body feels tiny and warm against mine.
Slowly, you relax. You snuggle up to me, and find a comfortable spot in the hollow of my neck to place your head.
I begin to hear your little snores.
I squish you a little bit more than is necessary, and drop a tiny kiss on your forehead.
We stay like that for quite some time, till I am sure you are fast asleep and can be laid down on the bed.
As I cover you up with your blanket, you smile in your sleep. It is a beautiful, wide smile, a happy and dreamy one.
It is in moments like these that I understand why all the woes of motherhood are worth undergoing. It is in moments like this that my weary heart rests, and finds a glimpse of peace.
It is difficult to say who has been more comforted by this little interaction: you or me.
Loads of love,
