Of the OH, considerate men, and bearing babies

One fine day, after observing a pregnant woman with her daily aches and pains and worries, the OH tells me: ‘You know what? God should give both parents a fair share in the process of childbirthing, no?’

‘How exactly do you mean?,’ I ask him.

‘I mean – when the woman is tired of carrying the baby, she should just tell her husband. God should have designed partners in such a way that a couple can hug and the baby can shift from the woman’s tummy to the man’s. Then, the man can bear the child till he gets tired. He can then shift it back to the woman’s belly,’ the OH replies.

I am too caught up in imagining this scenario to say anything.

‘After all, a husband and wife are supposed to be equal partners in everything in their life, no? Why not in this, too?,’ he asks.

I nod mutely.

Why doesn’t God give such considerate men a chance at bearing children? πŸ˜‰

  1. I’ve often wanted to know what it feels like to give birth to a child. To be honest, I am a little envious of women too, for having that experience all to themselves. But I admit I am more curious than considerate. Maybe you’re right. Once we truly know what we have to go through, we may just drop the plate and run for it πŸ™‚

  2. Ha Ha πŸ™‚ I think they would be ok to carry it for a few months, feel the baby kicking and be happy. But then a major argument would break out as to who should go through labour! I think God wanted to avoid those relationship complications and finally decided on sticking to one person πŸ™‚

  4. Well, I must say your OH is one in a million…Most men, actually all the men, I have met would never want to give birth…These guys help out with household chores etc. but the birthing process is something they would never want to be a part of…

Well, he is wonderful and very different from a lot of men I have encountered in my life. That said, I don’t know if he would really want to be a part of the birthing process, if it had to come to that. πŸ˜€

I think the men of today do understand the process of childbirth better than those of years past. Especially since hospitals have started allowing men into labour rooms, and couples have started attending gynaecologist sessions together. πŸ™‚
