Some time ago, I had the opportunity to visit the freshly revamped MG Road boulevard, which was set open to the public last year. For the uninitiated, the old boulevard on MG Road had been pulled down in 2007, to aid in the construction of the Metro network. Following a huge opposition from Bangalore residents, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) promised to reconstruct the boulevard, once the Metro work got over. They stayed true to their promise, and did just that!
The new boulevard looks beautiful, with its numerous art displays (many made out of recyclable material) and bougainvillea of all colours framing the walkway. It has a play area for children, three art galleries, waterless urinals, some water features that use recycled water, and pavement space for local artists to sell their wares. There is a life-size game of Snakes and Ladders, too, which must be paradise for kids. Lovely! What’s more, there is Dasaprakash here, too, selling yummy South Indian goodness, as well as sandwiches, ice creams and other snacks.
Take a look at some pictures from the new boulevard.
Bangalore-waasis, have you visited the new boulevard yet?
