Glimpses from Chitra Santhe 2013

We had the opportunity of visiting the Chitra Santhe last Sunday – our first time – and we were awed by it! There was so much of art, so many different forms, so much of passion and creativity – no wonder we fell in love with it. We are sure we’ll be going to the event every year henceforth. πŸ™‚

Chitra Santhe was like a carnival, with the entire area around Chitrakala Parishath cordoned off, with lakhs of visitors, with numerous stalls selling everything from ice creams and balloons and corn-on-the-cob alongside the beautiful art pieces. I didn’t buy any paintings, though, because I found everything way too expensive. Most of the paintings I liked were priced at Rs. 10,000 and above, and ultimately, I just decided to enjoy myself and admire the creations around me rather than trying to buy them.

So, here are some of my favourite creations from this year’s Chitra Santhe. These, from the many on display at the event, spoke to me, in spite of my limited knowledge of art.

  1. Hey, TGND!

Did you happen to get the card of the artist whose painting was the bullock cart at sunset? If you did, could you please share his contact info? A friend from the US wants it and I only got info from the guys who I bought from (very few!).

Lovely pictures of lovely paintings. I get my fill every year, whether we buy or not. Of course we kinda end up getting sucked in most years! πŸ˜€

Hey, no, I didn’t get the contact details of any artist. Sorry. 😦

I know just what you mean… I am sure we’ll be going to the Santhe every year now, irrespective of whether we buy something from there or not. πŸ™‚

      Oh, 😦

Even I didn’t know till last year of this event. It is held on the last Sunday of every January at Chitrakala Parishath. Maybe you could mark your calendar for the next year – it definitely is worth a visit. πŸ™‚

  2. W.O.W! I loved them all but the door – Oh my God!!!!!1 That door is like a real door. I mean, look at all the tree rings and the wearing out depicted so beautifully! Sigh.
I would have gone crazy looking at all this. I also especially loved the picture of 2 daies with the kumkum, the farmer (the dust flaring up is shown beautifully!), the sister (?) picking up her brother (?) πŸ™‚ The sock art is cute too! And that blue pattu padavai – the zari! BEAUTIFUL ! πŸ™‚

Well, mostly, there were paintings on sale, apart from food and a few other artistic creations – like the sock one and the brass Buddha. I have clicked them, no? But, really, the paintings took the cake. πŸ™‚
