  1. I admire people who have the patience to grow plants! Because gardening is totally out of my range!! Mum is a gardening person and it takes up so much of her time! But the joy on her face when she sees a flower is indescribable!

And Orchids are such high maintenance! Admire you guys for this! Your orchids are just blooming!! 🙂

Thank you, Dreamer. As I told RM, the garden at our place is maintained by the hubby, so all credit really goes to him. I just step in whenever required. 🙂

I can relate to your mother’s joy on seeing a fresh bloom – it is so totally worth all the effort we put into gardening!

There was a time when our orchid plants were not coming up so well, but the OH made them alright. Seriously.

  2. WOW!! you have orchids at home..you or OH, sure have a green thumb…in my case, even tulsi doesnt survive..gah!

you should seriously consider photography as a profession

    1. @R’s Mom

The credit for our home garden goes entirely to the OH. He maintains the plants every day; I only take care of them when he is not around. He has wonderful green thumbs. He is used to gardening – he has done a lot of it before marriage, at his house – while I am still learning.

Oh, a lot of plants have died at our place too – that is just part and parcel of gardening. Over time, you learn how to deal with plants. All they really need is a lot of love and care and patient handling. 🙂

Thanks, RM. I have a long way to go still, as far as photography is concerned. 🙂

I am crazy about flowers! 🙂

Yes, we got these from a flower show in Bangalore a couple of years back. Orchids are pretty unique plants, you know. They are very different from the other flowering plants that are commonly grown in India. The planting and growing instructions for different kinds of orchids are different.

The orchid plants at our house grow in special, holed pots with no soil inside – can you believe it? Instead, they need pieces of tiles, bricks and sawdust to thrive. They don’t do well in very cold or very hot climatic conditions, so we keep moving them in and out of the house.

These orchids are highly resilient, though. The plant stays fresh even if you do not water it for about 7-10 days. You should not over-water it too, I have heard, as it is not good for the plant. So, we move the plants inside the house on days when there is very heavy rain. Also, we just spray the plant with water on some days, and water it moderately on other days.

      1. I never knew orchids needed so much care. Thanks for all that info 🙂
And I am impressed by your and your OH’s dedication and patience in growing these at home 🙂
