I like getting myself a good cup of soup every now and then. (Not the Kolaveri type of soup, thank you very much!) Sitting down in a restaurant after a tiring day, relaxing, sipping from a piping hot cup of soup seems to be a great antidote for me against the stresses of everyday life.
So, naturally, I was thrilled when I spotted this place in Mantri Square mall that is exclusively dedicated to soups: The Soup Bowl. It is so good to see a restaurant that specifically serves healthy soups! Such a welcome change from all the junk food outlets!
We were initially hesitant to enter the place (I really don’t know why!), but once we did and tried their soups, we became fans. The OH and I are now regulars at The Soup Bowl, and have tried out several of the varieties of vegetarian soup that they serve. They do have a nice menu, largely consisting of soups, but they also have soupy pasta, garlic bread and sandwiches.
The OH swears by The Soup Bowl’s Tomato Soup, while I LOVE their Mexican Tortilla Soup and Sweet Corn Soup.
And, oh, I’m so in love with the cute little pots that they serve the soup in!
And, I like the fact that they are quite affordable. The prices are not at all over-the-top; they are pretty reasonable (I feel) for the quantity of soup that they serve per bowl.
And, I love that their soups taste good, and the way they should. They don’t have a highly artificial colour or very artificial or preservative-ey taste. They taste natural.
If you haven’t gone to The Soup Bowl yet, please do go soon! Highly recommended! 🙂
If you have been there already, I would love to know your thoughts on the place.
PS: A fun piece of information that I got courtesy of what I call the ‘Soup Wall’ at The Soup Bowl: The first soup was made of hippopotamus. The earliest archeological evidence for the consumption of soup dates back to 6000 BC, and it was hippopotamus soup!
Ewwww!
I love soups too and look at that cuppa …it’s so cute 🙂
P.S. yikes but okay I erased what I read and I still love soups 🙂

Even I don’t usually consume much soup in the summer, I can’t resist The Soup Bowl. 🙂

I stay in Singapore. I tried it first here. I am unaware of any branches in India. I was non-mushroom person (never really ate them at home in India coz’ of their name -naayikode) but the mushroom stroganhoff is super. No pretence – just soup – the way it should be 🙂

Oh, tell me about the ‘naikodai’ stigma in South Indian households. I didn’t eat mushroom for years just because of this disgusting name that my mom gave it. 😦 The same with the husband. Then, one day, we both tried mushrooms and fell in love with them. We haven’t stopped loving them since. 🙂

I may be the only odd one out….but soups in this summer heat are a big no-no. Why did’nt you tell about this place a couple of months ago 😛

No, no, you are not the odd one out. 🙂 I don’t prefer having soup in summer months too, but then I make an exception for The Soup Bowl. And after an hour or so of roaming around in the air-conditioned comfort of a mall, a hot bowl of soup is fine. I go for that, rather than eating junk food. 🙂

Yes, a place dedicated to soups is a welcome respite. Anyday.
🙂 Glad you discovered a place. We go to Soup Spoon chain here and they serve amazing vegetarian soups as well. But they are not really thin and more of the thick soups but amazingly done 🙂
And hippo soup – double EWWWWWWWWWWW
