Those of you in Bangalore…

… pretty please tell me where do you guys go out on weekends?

All those weekends we plan to go out, the OH and I try to think of places to go which are not crowded, which we haven’t visited already, and exclude malls and restaurants as far as possible. We usually come up with zilch!

We do enjoy spending weekends at home, but then, there are some times when we just want to go out. Somewhere, which is not to friends’ and relatives’ places.

Kindly share your favourite Bangalorean places that you swear by with this ignorant couple! Many thanks in advance!

  1. Hmmm… since you love reading books – you can spend hours at Blossom Book House on Church street, Bowl in Amoeba, eat in the multitude of restaurants there…

Evenings, try going to Visveswarapuram food street where you get amazing Obbattu,Dosas of different types, gulkund and variety of food πŸ™‚

Hmmm and then you have many places you can go out to over the weekend – Talakaadu, Somnathpura, Balmuri, Sangama, Kotilingeshwara, Bheemeshwari – all 1 day trips or you can even stay over night in those Jungle Lodges…

  2. With the very lil time I get at Blr during our visits now, one thing I do is roam aimlessly around Malleswaram. That is my fav past time πŸ˜‰ It also has some lovely temples with interesting lores around them πŸ™‚ So you might give them a try.

I love doing that too. We park our vehicle at one place, and then walk around the entire area, just taking in the sights and sounds of different things. πŸ™‚ And, of course, taking pics. πŸ™‚

I would love to visit the temples you mention, and read up about their history. Thank you so much for the suggestion. πŸ™‚

No, I haven’t been on any of the Bangalore walks, though I have heard a lot about them. Should do sometime!

  3. I guess there are few places around Bangalore worth exploring. Once in while just for change you can head Mysore road to eat at Adiga or Kamat. I want to visit flea market someday.
I prefer spending wkends at home more often than not. Just do nothing sorts or gearing up the busy week ahead.

I love eating at Adiga’s and Kamat on the way to Mysore! πŸ™‚ Would love to do it once in a while, for a change. πŸ™‚

I haven’t visited any flea market in the city yet. Sad, no? Well, let’s rectify that. πŸ™‚

I spend some weekends at home, while on some days, I just want to go out.

  4. I don’t think Bangalore has too many places like that. Either they’re all goal-oriented (watch a movie, go bowling, etc etc) or enforced chilling out places (amusement parks, etc etc). Once you’ve done the Lal Bagh and Cubbon Park and Lumbini Gardens bit, there’s nothing much to do…unless the idea is just to chill under a tree and read a book. (But then also, it’s summer!). Try a few weekend getaways, there are some 1-day ones also a bit out of bangalore.

I hate going to places that are so crowded unless I need to do/buy something specific there. So I end up spending weekends at home!

PS. where in b’lore are you based?

I will try the weekend getaway thing. Thanks for the suggestions!
I love to sit in Lal Baugh, Cubbon Park and read books or take pics, but then, as you say, it is summer now. Not really fun to do that now. 😦

I am beginning to hate the crowds. And I don’t much like the idea of going out just to get something or go to some specific place. Weekends should be spent ambling away and exploring the city, no?

      1. I wish Bangalore was one of those cities that can be explored forever :p you know like those places that have a million museums and flea markets and little fashionable alleys and…sigh πŸ˜›

Actually, much as I love Bangalore..I’d love it if it had a beach. Or at least a huge river, with a public space near it!

Bangalore does have beautiful lakes, but they are so crowded on weekends that I do not usually visit. 😦

I am sure there are lots of hidden places in nooks and corners of the city that would be lovely to discover. It is such places that I am looking for. πŸ™‚

I would love it if Bangalore had a beach, too! πŸ™‚

  5. God – same thing happened to me! It was like “I dont want to go to malls or relatives’ houses or theaters” which meant there is NOTHING else to do. We used to end up going to nearby places to eat and buy random things off the streets (which I love btw!) but other than that, there was nothing to look forward to during the weekends! πŸ˜€ It seems like every place was SO crowded, it used to suck the enthu off me to step out.

It probably means you have to make small weekend trips to nearby places πŸ™‚

I realised that when I read your Saturday posts. That you love going to nearby places to eat, shop, etc. That’s one thing we have started doing these days, and we are loving it too. πŸ™‚

We are starting to get tired of the crowds and overpriced shops that we see everywhere. A sign that we are getting old? πŸ™‚

  6. One thing we do every single weekend here is take a walk to the nearest JustBooks library. It’s a good one hour’s walk both ways, and we spend another hour or so at the store. It’s become so much of a routine now, that we just cannot do without it. Otherwise we just end up going to malls, so I guess I’m not of any big help there πŸ™‚

I used to go to the Just Books library regularly, but then lost interest. Somehow, it just doesn’t hold the same charm for me any more. I don’t know why. 😦

We usually end up going to malls or hotels too, and I want to change that. πŸ™‚

  7. I love Tipu’s Summer Palace. Lots of garden space, not that many crowds, middle of city but not really known. Nice.

Russel Market – the shops, the flower market real early for pictures – you like pictures of bazaars, no?

Shall think of more based on what we’ve liked. Or planned. Oh, Janapadaloka…en route to Mysore (but really just outside Bangalore). Pots, potters, nice kutti museum. Or Clay Station – if a pottery class is your thing.

  10. See thats a very difficult thing in B’lore. No friend’s or relative’s place, no malls, no restaurants and no crowded place = No other places in B’lore. You could find some options if you could widen your horizon a little, like stretching it till Mysore. Lets say in and around Bangalore. One day’s trip kinda things. There are very nice options. You can google to find the places as I was unable to find a single link which gave a list of all those places..:-)

I know, it’s a difficult job to come up with places that are not crowded, no malls, no restaurant or friends’ or relatives’ places. We are trying, though. πŸ™‚

Mysore is a good option, but might not always be possible. 😦

Thank you so much for the inputs! πŸ™‚
