Sigh ! This post brought back my years spent in Amdavad, VVNagar and Jodhpur — all kite-crazy places and also flying kites with my brother during Uttrayan.
Oh, I’ve been all over. This spell in Mumbai is the longest I have ever stayed in a place

Pongalo pongal! They fly kites here as well, no? Tried once with the kids but they couldn’t get them to go up and lost interest. I have never flown a kite from scratch myself, so wasn’t of much use!
I haven’t seen kites been flown in Bangalore anywhere. In Ahmedabad, the entire city shuts down for two days to fly kites. The atmosphere there during Uttarayan is something one can only experience.
I regret the fact that I have never flown a kite from scratch myself, too.
The pic of the manja reminded me of the time by two elder brothers had ground glass and made the paste to strengthen the string, when I had been a little girl. The scolding they got from mother for doing that!
I particularly loved the tree festooned with kites, as if they grew on the tree Happy Sankaranti!
Oooooooooh wow! very nice clicks TGND I used to fly kites with cousins in B’lore and I managed to get one stuck up high on a coconut tree – a brand new handsome green kite. Your post is on my wishlist
Therei s a kite flying festival and season here in Singapore as well. Oh, the beauty of the sky then!
There is something in the air during Uttarayan in Gujarat, and during Navratri too, which makes the place a must-visit area then. You should totally visit during these times.
